The very first advice that a mother to be gets is ‘You should eat for two’. This statement is not true at all. For a pregnant woman, the emphasis should be more on the quality of the food rather than quantity.
Energy demands increase, there is a need for additional 300 cal which can be got from milk and its products, nuts like almonds, walnuts, dates and figs.
Additional 25g of protein is required for the developing fetus and can be received from nuts, pulses and legumes, millets and so on.
It is advisable to include fresh fruits and vegetables in the daily diet. Reduce the consumption of convenience foods and consume more of home cooked food
Eat at regular intervals. For those with nausea/vomiting/acidity problems, small meals at regular intervals provides sufficient nutrients and prevents nausea.
