What is Croup?
Croup is a respiratory infection accompanied by a harsh, barking cough. It is a spasm of the larynx that develops from a viral infection in children three months to four years. It will trouble to breathe in the middle of the night. The parainfluenza viruses are responsible for 80 percent of croup cases. Croup is also called as acute laryngitis, acute tracheitis, angina membranacea, depending on its stage.
It often starts in the middle of the night with harsh, barking cough that comes in bursts and noisy breathing. Hoarseness and fever may also be present. It affects the mucous membrane lining the windpipe, and especially the bronchi. The secretion is thick and viscid, concretes almost immediately. The condition is serious and may become dangerous because it impedes the respiration.
