Teething is the process of eruption of teeth from the gums and generally start at the age of 5 to 7 month in infants. The primary teeth are formed during the pregnancy and all of them appear by the age of three. The front incisors are most commonly the first teeth to erupt, followed by the first primary molar, canines and second primary molars.
Painful teething can be a tough time both for the baby and the whole family. The first tooth usually comes in when babies are between 4 and 7 months of age. At the time of teething, general irritation, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, sleeplessness and weight loss are common complaints of a child.
In homeopathy, there are medicines which can be safely given to babies for treating the common problems related to teething.

Examination of Teeth
Always examine teeth of a child as soon as the first tooth erupts. Examine the teeth, tongue, and oral cavity, gingiva for abnormalities.
Abnormalities are as follows:
- Bleeding of gingiva
- Change in tooth position
- Premature tooth mobility
- White spots on teeth enamel
Homeopathic medicines for Teething
These medicines can be safely used to treat teething problems such as delayed teething, painful and difficult teething.
It acts on glands, skin, and bones. Patient has increased local and general perspiration, and swelling of glands. It raises blood coagulability. It is prescribed for babies with difficult and delayed teething.
It is especially indicated in tardy dentition and in problems incident to that period, bones diseases, non-union off fractured bones and anemia after acute diseases and chronic wasting diseases.
It is given to babies with slow and difficult dentition. It is suited for the baby who is thin and pale.
It is a mixture of phenols obtained from distillation. It is related with pulsations all over the body and profuse bleeding from small wounds. It is the very good remedy for ailments in teething children.
It acts on teeth. It has ill effects on anger and insults. It is the very good remedy for a toothache during menses. It is the very good remedy for pyorrhoea.
It is the very good remedy for diseases of bones, caries and its destruction. This is deep and slow in action. It is suited for children, with a large head, with the distended abdomen, slow in walking, have bad effects of vaccination.
It is pre-eminently a female remedy, especially for a mild, gentle, yielding disposition. It is used when there is yellow or white coated tongue, covered with thick mucus.
This remedy is almost specific for the lesser ailments of denition.
This remedy suits both the febrile condition of Aconite and nervous erethism of Chamomilla. It is recommended for teething, with restless at night, distension of the gums and symptoms of irritation.
This can be helpful when a child seems excitable and has troubling sleeping because of teething pain.
If a child seems very emotional, upset, or sad because of teething, this remedy may bring relief.
It is helpful for painful teething, relieved by pressing on the painful area and by heat.
It is recommended if a reddish irritation or rash develops on the baby’s chin or diaper area during teething episodes.
