Summer is a fun time! Except when your vacations get spoilt by sunburns and rashes. There are many common diseases caused due to heat and humidity that can be easily avoided by taking a few precautions. Here is a list of common summer skin diseases that need not spoil your summer fun:

1. Acne breakout:

Summer causes sweating and when this sweat mixes with bacteria and oils on your skin, it clogs your pores and causes breakouts.

Prevention: Blot sweat from your skin regularly with dry and clean towel. Regularly wash sweaty clothes and accessories before reusing.

2. Skin dryness:

The extreme heat combined with direct exposure to sun can still cause dry skin (spending time in air-conditioners magnifies this) and can cause irritation too.

Prevention: Apply sunscreen before going outdoors, regularly wash your face with cleansers and moisturize often to prevent dryness.

3. Heat rash:

It is very common due to pores getting blocked by sweat. Heat rash can cause burning sensations, and extreme irritation on the skin.

Remedy and prevention: You can cold press the affected area with a tea bag soaked in cold water. You can also apply a paste of chickpeas for 10-15 mins before rinsing with cold water. Besides, there are many anti itch creams and powders available in the market which can prevent heat rashes.

4. Folliculitis:

Follicles are the openings on your skin from where hair grows out. And when it gets infected due to sweat and bacteria mixture, it causes lot of irritation and uneasiness accompanied with pimples.

Prevention: Change your sweaty clothes immediately after exercise/playing/workout. Clean the sweaty area with a dry cloth before putting on other clothes. Also try to wear loose fitting clothes in humid weather.

5. Razor burn:

A razor burn is caused by not using the razor correctly(too close, wrong angle etc) and can cause skin irritation in the affected area. It is also accompanied by bumps, inflammation and swelling.

Prevention: Rinse the area to shave with hot water before shaving as this will open the pores. Avoid scratching in the area before shaving as your hands and nails may contain bacteria which may cause infection.
