When there is a tear or break in the anal canal due to excessive stretching of the anal aperture over a long time period is called a fissure. These anal fissures cause bleeding and extreme pain during and after passing bowel movements.
Anal Fissures are usually caused due to traumatic childbirth in women, STDs, ulcers and poor hygiene. It results in constipation, itching, difficulty, and pain while passing stools or urine and rectal bleeding.
Ayurvedic herbs used
Ayurveda prescribes herbal medicines that help relieve constipation. Apart from medicines, ayurvedic healing oils are prescribed for local application to help reduce symptoms. With the help of anal dilators and ayurvedic oils, the anus is dilated to ease bowel movements and reduce pain and bleeding.
Sitz baths: Be it a case of acute or chronic fissures, sitz baths are extremely beneficial. Collect lukewarm water in a tub and pour in some triphala or panchwalkal kwath or any antiseptic solution. Now, sit in this tub such that the affected area is submerged in the medicated water. These baths effectively reduce pain, irritation and have a soothing effect on the area.
Kshara sutra ligation: In chronic cases where sentinel tag is formed, surgery becomes a necessity. Ayurveda uses a medicated alkaline thread instead of conventional surgical procedures. A less invasive procedure where a medicated thread is tied around the senital tag. This thread strangulates the tissues and they tag eventually falls off in 5 days due to necrosis. With time the fissure heals as well, with the help of ayurvedic healing oils like jatyadi and panchguna.
