A throat itching can be because of allergies, allergic reaction, or early illness. It can aggravate the throat, causing it to feel scratchy and uncomfortable.
An allergic reaction occurs when a substance called an allergen triggers an immune system response in the body. The common allergy triggers that can cause an itchy throat include:
- Animal Dander
- Foods, such as peanut, dairy, or strawberries
Inhaling pollutants cam also lead to an itchy throat which includes:
- Cleaning products
- Tobacco smoke or vapor
If the itchy throat is accompanied by wheezing, difficulty breathing, and painful swallowing the immediate concern to doctor.
The doctor may examine for:
- Sinus or nasal drainage
A medication is given to help to block the body’s inflammatory response.
Drink plenty of fluids and gargle with warm salt water and baking soda to help relieve inflammation.
