Everyone thinks that rice or chapatti is the reason for obesity. Rice and chapatti are stapled food in many parts of the world. People blame rice for causing obesity, diabetes, and related conditions. We use white rice which is polished and it looks white due to the removal of fiber-rich outer covering which is called s husk or bran. So white rice is devoid of B complex vitamins, iron, calcium etc.

Wheat is high in fiber, protein, and minerals like iron, calcium, selenium, potassium, and magnesium unless sieved.

Chapattis are rich in sodium and potassium while rice does not contain sodium and has the very low amount of potassium.

Rice is easy to digest as it is low in fiber. So it is good for people with loose stools, diarrhea, and indigestion.

White rice has higher glycaemic index than chapatti which means it increases blood sugar more rapidly. So chapatti is a better option for the person with diabetes.

Chapatti contains lots of fibers, so it is good for overweight and obese people.

Thus nutrient content-wise, chapattis are healthier than rice. Brown or unpolished rice could be a good replacement for white rice.
