A paralysis caused by injury or illness, Tetraplegia or Quadriplegia causes partial or total loss of usage of all 4 limbs and torso. The loss is a combination of both sensory and motor which means both control and feel is lost. This occurs due to high-level damage caused to the brain or spinal cord. C1-C4.

Symptoms

  • Impairment of limbs
  • Loss of bladder and bowel movement control
  • Impaired sexual functioning
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Impaired sensation in affected areas
  • Numbness
  • Neuropathic pain

People with tetraplegia should be examined and informed concerning the options for reconstructive surgery of the tetraplegic arms and hands as it becomes a huge barrier to regain autonomy.
